'Sainik Farm is an illegal settlement in New Delhi. A large tract of land was left in Delhi to maintain the greenery. However the rich and powerful bought tracts of land there ostensibly to farm but built huge mansions there' I hope the wikipedia page is fake.

Awesome! It's a little like Hacker Dojo -- you might want to check that out for more ideas.

I'm a student, I have friends all around Delhi and we usually meet up at CP or someplace to hack on things, once a month or so.

Do you plan to freely open up the place for people like us to just come, sit and talk/discuss/work? There's no point in paying here since we're not going to be permanent. A lot of us would just want space for 5 people to plug in laptops and leech wifi :-)

haha. yes guys, come on in! If you guys are going to be killing all my bandwidth then i might say no, but lets try it a few times and then decide. Let me know when so i can try and get some bean bags!

maybe you can add a cafe / garden cafe to your startup mansion and provide free wifi. Hopefully the costs of coffee and munchies will pay for the day visitors ;)

working on that :) ill leave a message when its operational. Come and judge for yourself how you guys like it. Open to advice.

Wish something like this was in CP or North/West Delhi. Saket is simply too far from my place in Rohini.

-----

1 point by harshbatra 1455 days ago | link

Yea thats far. Maybe we'll come up with a plan for people from further places to drop in a few times a week and price is accordingly. Drop in when you are this side Paras.

Got this mail sometime back regarding www.betahouse.in . Guess you can get yourself enrolled there for more visibility. Thumbs up to your initiative. I was trying to solve the problem of finding right co-founder & I believe such initiative could solve the problem.

-----

Thanks Pocha. I am looking for a co-founder too. Hopefully this will help me find the right person.

Few questions -

1. Could you please give some background information about yourself? Do you have a startup as well? Do you own or have rented this place from someone else for your work or are you just spreading the word on someone else's behalf?

2. Are some people already working out of this place?

3. What is the total capacity?

Thanks.

1. my blog should give out some info about me. harshbatra.com Yes I have a startup as well. My parents own the place. Since they moved to Goa its been lying vacant. I don't live there because its too big for me.

2. Im waiting to hit the 10 people mark to start.

3. The place is huge. Can easily accommodate 50.

Thanks a lot for all the information and taking this initiative. Apart from being a good co-working place, it might help in connecting like minded people. (Even I'm looking for a co-founder.)

You can also think of allowing the place to be used for meetups like HSI or hackathons.

p.s. Your blog ain't loading up right now for me. Also, you can put up its link in your HSI profile as well.

Yea im open to hosting meetups. How do you suggest i go about suggesting my place as an option for these meetups?

Thanks for the related link.

P.S. I just opened my blog. It seems to be working fine. www.harshbatra.com

We recently had the HN Delhi meetup on 21st Nov. You can check the Google Group for more details. (I guess most of the folks on that list would also be on HSI). -

http://groups.google.com/group/delhi-hn-meetup/topics

On HSI itself, there was a related discussion where a number of people were interested for a hackathon -

http://hackerstreet.in/item?id=512

I haven't attended a Barcamp now for a long time, but you can see if it seems a good option to you -

http://groups.google.com/group/barcampdelhi/topics

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/delhi_barcamp/

(The Google Group seems to be more active ..)

Essentially, you'll have to put in some efforts to host a meetup at your place. The tech community in NCR is pretty small and generally the participation is on the lower side.

Thanks for the suggestions! Things are looking positive thus far.

Good idea. I so wish it were not that far from my place.

-----

1 point by harshbatra 1456 days ago | link

Thanks Tarun. Wish you lived closer too. Idea is to make the environment so contagious and fun that everyone comes from distance too.

Great Initiative Harsha. All the best!

you should also speak to Freeman of Jaaga.in ( co-working space for entrepreneurs, geeks, etc in Bangalore ) - I can connect you if you want. - But Jaaga is all free.

A suggestion - if you haven't already thought about it : I guess there will be people who will like to hangout there only on weekends (or some particular days only). You can have different payment plans for such people.

Wish there was something like this in Pune too :(

-----

1 point by harshbatra 1453 days ago | link

Starting with the first lot. We will eventually do that. Thanks for the suggestion Vineet! I got to visit Pune still. Have heard alot about the city.

Wonderful initiative. Delhi was dieing for one. Way to go.

-----

1 point by harshbatra 1455 days ago | link

Thanks Bansal. I didn't expect such a positive response on the first day. Its looking positive.

-----

1 point by mbansal14 1455 days ago | link

Don't get disappointed just in case the response doesn't convert into people taking up seats. :P

Be there.

-----

1 point by harshbatra 1455 days ago | link

im setting up so either way ill be working from there.

-----

1 point by nischal 1456 days ago | link

Sigh! I wish we had something like this in mumbai. 5k seems so affordable! Good work Harsh. Hoping you get the numbers you need.

-----

1 point by harshbatra 1456 days ago | link

If the Mansion was in Mumbai I certainly would have started it there. :) Thanks Nischal. If you are in Delhi, you are welcome to come and hang out with the crowd.

-----

1 point by desigooner 1456 days ago | link

If the mansion was in Mumbai, you could have funded many a startups from the sale of such a place :)

-----

1 point by rick_2047 1455 days ago | link

Even if he is renting it to the capacity crowd (50 as he said), the normal one year rent would be enough to bootstrap even a manufacturing business I think.

-----

1 point by nischal 1456 days ago | link

yeah, someday ;)

-----

1 point by pankajbatra 1456 days ago | link

Great idea.

-----

1 point by harshbatra 1456 days ago | link

Thanks Pankaj. Come help build the community! :)

-----

-----

2 points by harshbatra 1455 days ago | link
